Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small town situated in the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar to its significance. They often believe it's an island to the west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel grew on Courtice located just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an article published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. The moment I outgrew the size of my male companion, I stopped. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. For Brugel, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her to go in this direction. The teacher recommended that she try out for a school production. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on the big and small screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian of the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
